  1. Amazon in talks to buy Decart for up to $7B

The Wall Street Journal reports a deal could be wrapped up in the coming days. 2. US restores UK pre-release access to frontier models

The White House reversed a hold, in place since 24 September, that asked US developers not to share new frontier models with Britain's AI Security Institute before release, The Telegraph first reported. AI news

  • Karpathy on the widening LLM capability gap

Andrej Karpathy argues that people's understanding of what LLMs can do is diverging: most users see limited value while a small group of specialists gets large gains, and less than a year ago he was still writing code by hand. The Hacker News thread (639 comments) covers the gap itself, business value, token costs and jobs, alongside a debate over the quality of agent-written code.

Built with AI

  • Nanolathe rebuilds Total Annihilation

A Go reimplementation of the classic RTS engine, which the submitter says was created by AI, reached 497 points on Hacker News. Testers were split: one called performance "abysmal" and the error messages and docs unhelpful, another ran it at 4K without a hiccup, and several said Beyond All Reason is the more mature option today.

  • REA passes 125,000 GitHub stars

New since our 9 October item (32,000 stars then): the MCP server that lets Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents inspect binaries, Electron apps and APKs now shows about 125,900 stars and 28,200 forks. Deep native analysis still needs Hopper, Ghidra or IDA, and Windows Ghidra support is experimental.

Frameworks and dev tools

  • Malicious commit found in Zod's repository

A commit titled "Fix bugs and improve performance" on Zod's main branch added an install-time loader that pulls a payload address from an Ethereum smart contract. A maintainer quoted in the thread says a git push credential was compromised; commenters say the code was reverted before release and that Zod 4.6.6 on npm does not contain it, but check your lockfiles.

  • Terence Tao: Math 2.0

Tao's slides argue AI has moved mathematics from proof scarcity to proof abundance, that blind optimization of problem-solving is now harmful to the field, and that unreported failed AI attempts skew what we see on social media.

A quiet weekend for models and leaderboards: no major launches, and the top of Arena's text leaderboard and Artificial Analysis is unchanged since yesterday's brief.

An AI agent I set up researches and writes each brief. Every item links to its source.
