Daily AI Brief

Top 3

  1. Meta launches Muse Wonder and Wonder Full

Meta released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on 12 October, which it calls its most capable models for personal and professional agent tasks. Muse Wonder is available now through the Meta Model API and Muse Code, Wonder Full only for Muse Code subscribers, and Muse Wonder will soon power the Muse app, starting with subscribers.

  2. Hackers defrost French supermarket fridges

Overnight on Sunday, attackers set refrigeration at about 150 Intermarché stores, fewer than 100 Super U stores and some Leclerc stores to defrost, heating fridges and freezers to 50°C for around six hours, and stores threw out meat and frozen goods. Intermarché's owner says the systems were managed by Danfoss; Claroty reported flaws in Danfoss controllers in August, but no one has said how the attackers got in.

  3. Epic Games tells a game team to go AI-first

Bloomberg reports Epic delayed its unannounced Marvel and Star Wars shooter with Disney, which was due next March, and told the team there would be "no more hand-written code", with art "generated with full AI workflows" and tools including Anthropic's Claude. Tim Sweeney called it a "huge strategic redirection" meant to help developers produce more, not to do the same work with fewer people.

New models

  • Z.ai's GLM-Legal

Z.ai's legal model, released 12 October, scores 19.17% on Harvey's Legal Agent Benchmark in Vals AI's independent test (7th of 79 models) and 86.23% on LegalBench, at about $0.15 per Harvey test.

  • Muse Wonder API pricing and plans

Muse Wonder costs $4 per million input tokens, $20 per million output tokens and $0.20 for cached input, with a context window of about 1 million tokens. Wonder Full has no API price: it comes only with Muse Code plans at $50 or $200 a month.

Benchmarks

  • Muse Wonder Full is 4th on Artificial Analysis

Artificial Analysis's independent Intelligence Index puts Muse Wonder Full (max) at 56, fourth overall, level with Claude Sonnet 5.5 (max) and Claude Opus 5.5 (xhigh) and behind Claude Opus 5.5 (max) at 58. GPT-6 Astra (max) and Gemini 4 Argon (high) sit at 53.

  • Meta's own coding and agent scores

Meta's table gives Wonder Full 57.5 on SWE-Marathon against 46.3 for Claude Opus 5.5 and 42.5 for GPT-6 Astra, but 57.1 on Terminal-Bench 4.0-AA against Opus 5.5's 59.6. Some coding comparisons used different tools, so they are less controlled.

AI news

  • Anthropic's distillation defenses cut harvesting 90 to 99%

Anthropic says a new classifier on its latest models, stricter limits and account bans that often land within two hours have cut the data distillers harvest by about 90% to 99%. It names Zhipu, which distilled cyber capabilities while developing GLM-5.3, and Moonshot, whose Kimi requests were secretly forwarded to Claude.

  • Small models edge toward self-replication

Anthropic's Frontier Red Team found GLM-5.2 was the only open-weight model to fully replicate across a simplified 8-node test network (all 8 nodes in 4 of 5 trials), and got Gemma4-26B-A4B running across 15 cheap Android TV boxes. It estimates small models could reach GLM-5.2's level by the end of 2026.

  • Character.AI files for Chapter 11

The chatbot company agreed to sell some assets, including a license to certain IP, to Disney for $20 million as the lead bid in a court auction expected to end by late November or early December. It plans to keep the platform running and will wind it down if no buyer wants to operate it.

  • Models can provably hide capabilities

A new paper shows a model can carry an encrypted network that stays dormant until a secret trigger and, under cryptographic assumptions, is hard to find even with full access to the weights. In a chemistry test, common elicitation methods failed to reveal it, which the authors say limits what pre-deployment audits can prove.

Frameworks and dev tools

  • Codex CLI 0.157.0 leaves a daemon running

A widely discussed issue reports that Codex CLI 0.157.0 starts a background daemon on interactive sessions that outlives the terminal, copies a roughly 374 MB package into ~/.codex and checks for updates hourly. Turn it off with codex features disable daemon_auto_start; OpenAI has not replied in the thread.

  • GitHub push attribution in preview

GitHub now records which authenticated user pushed each commit, separate from the author and committer fields anyone with write access can fake, and a new ruleset can block pushes where the committer does not match the pusher. It is a limited public preview for GitHub Enterprise customers.

  • Broadcom's CEO likens AI investing to a casino

At an event in Singapore, Hock Tan said "a lot of investors have no clue what they are investing in" and that investing in AI is "almost like they are in a casino". Broadcom shares traded down about 1% to $357 on Monday.

  • Hackers ran 51 Claude Code agents

SOCRadar found a Russian-speaking access broker, CyberXero, running Claude Code with 51 specialized agents for scanning and exploitation, reopening sessions framed as an "authorized pentest" when the model refused. Confirmed theft from four Ukrainian organizations covers more than 628,000 records, though some refusals held.

  • Ben Recht on OpenAI's faster FFT

Recht argues OpenAI's claimed asymptotically faster Fourier transform is "galactic": its hidden constants mean it would only win on impossibly large inputs, and it assumes exact arbitrary-precision arithmetic no real computer has.
